Objective

Hong Kong aims to achieve smart city development to enhance residents' quality of life. By integrating IoT, AI, and big data, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and 3D mapping provide detailed city landscape, supporting smart transportation mobility, energy management, and disaster response. This talk will introduce the smart city development through spatial data including optimizing resource allocation, reducing traffic congestion, and improving public safety. The hands-on practical session will introduce various sources of spatial data, including environmental, transportation, land use, and recreation. Students will learn how to make use of spatial data by GIS software for mapping, spatial analysis, and decision-making. This talk provides practical skills and knowledge to enhance students’ understanding of open-source spatial data and optimize you the outdoor recreation experiences.

  • Quota for face-to-face session: 28 (priority will be given to members who attended the virtual sessions before)

  • Free of charge

  • The talk with hands-on practice will be conducted in face-to-face session. Participants can also join via virtual session as observers

Introduction of Guest Lecturer


Dr. Sissi Chen

Dr. Sissi Chen is an environmental health geographer. She is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She specializes in urban greenery, air pollution, GIS, and environmental health. In recent years, her research has extended to plant ecology and the functions of vegetation in urbanized areas, as well as mobile GIS geospatial technologies. She is a certified arborist of the International Society of Arboriculture and a member of the Hong Kong Geographic Information System Association (HKGISA).
