Objectives

The workshop introduces the basic concept of spatial data, the basic functions and analytical tools of Geographic Information System (GIS) to teachers and students in senior forms in order to facilitate them to promote the GIS-related activities in schools.

Intended Audience

Teachers in primary and secondary schools, students in senior secondary levels (S.4 - S.6)

Introduction of Guest Lecturers

Dr Kenneth Tang

Dr Kenneth Tang is currently Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP). He serves on a number of professional bodies, notably as Past President of the Hong Kong Geographic Information System Association, Chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Board Director of the Hong Kong Alliance of Build Asset & Environment Information Management Association (HKABAEIMA) and Conservation E3 Foundation, Chief Editor of the HKIP Journal and appointed by the HKSARG as Member of the CSDI Advisory Committee.

Dr Tang obtained his MSc (Urban Planning) and PhD from HKU.

 

Dr Paulina Wong

Dr Paulina Wong is currently an Assistant Professor in the Science Unit at Lingnan University and Centre Fellow of the Institute of Policy Studies. She is an environmental geographer specializing in urban climate, air/noise pollution, GIS, and environmental health. In recent years, her research has been extended to urban sensing, mobile geospatial technologies, sustainability education and social policy. She is a certified GIS Professional. She also serves on a number of professional associations such as the Council member and Vice-chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Honorary Secretary of HKGISA and Committee member of HKABAEIMA. She is also the editorial board member and review editor of several quality international journals.

Dr Wong obtained her BSc and MSc (First Class Honours) from University of Auckland, New Zealand and PhD from HKU.

 

Mr Justin Lam

Mr Justin Lam currently serves as the Honorary Treasurer of HKGISA after graduated from the University of Hong Kong, majoring in Urban Studies (First Class Honours). Passionate in geography and spatial technology, Mr Lam competed and attained First Runner-up in Esri Young Scholar Award with his investigation on columbarium shortage in Hong Kong. Mr Lam also contributes GIS skills into his career in Urban Renewal Authority, developing Urban Renewal Information System (URIS) which is a pioneer project in creating a smart digital twin for Hong Kong.

 

Mr Tommy Chan

Mr Tommy Chan is a junior urban planner graduated from the Master of Science in Urban Planning (Distinction) and Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies (First Class Honours) from the University of Hong Kong. Being a member of HKGISA, he is passionate in smart city spatial analytics, especially on smart mobility. He is the champion of ESRI Young Scholar Award in 2019 and the Lands Department GeospatialTech Challenge in 2021, and has contributed as a webinar speaker for the HKSAR Innovation Carnival in 2020.

 

Mr Andy Chung

Mr Andy Chung is a master student pursuing the Master of Science in Urban Analytics in the University of Hong Kong, specialising in urban spatial data analytics. He is also working as an GIS Officer at Urban Renewal Authority after graduating from the Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies, aiding to make solid decisions on urban renewal with the usage of GIS. Being a member of HKGISA, he is passionate in applying GIS and spatial analytical models to the town-planning industry. He is awarded the Champion of the GeoSpatialTech Challenge 2021 organised by Lands Department.
