3. Workshop - Disease Mapping and Environmental Monitoring

Objective

This workshop enables participants to learn Geographic Information System (GIS) analytical skills with direct hands-on experience on industry-leading web-based mapping applications.Public health mapping and environmental risk assessment will be introduced in the session and participants will make use of multi-source spatial data that are available from Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI).

Introduction of Guest Lecturers

Dr. Paulina Wong

Dr. Paulina Wong is currently an Assistant Professor in the Science Unit at Lingnan University and Centre Fellow of the Institute of Policy Studies. She is an environmental geographer specializing in urban climate, air/noise pollution, GIS, and environmental health. In recent years, her research has been extended to urban sensing, mobile geospatial technologies, sustainability education and social policy. She is a certified GIS Professional. She also serves on a number of professional associations such as the Council member and Vice-chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Honorary Secretary of HKGISA and Committee member of HKABAEIMA. She is also the editorial board member and review editor of several quality international journals.

Dr. Wong obtained her BSc and MSc (First Class Honours) from University of Auckland, New Zealand and PhD from HKU.



Mr. Issac Ng

Mr. Issac Ng currently serves as a Research Assistant for Dr. Tony Sze from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, conducting projects related to New Energy Vehicles and Transportation Safety Planning. Mr. Ng graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, holding a bachelor's degree majoring in Environmental Engineering, and he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Urban Analytics at the University of Hong Kong. Mr. Ng is keen on urban data analytics in planning and managing the sustainable development of the smart city.
