Historical maps are a powerful tool for exploring how cities have changed over time, revealing insights into past disease outbreaks, urban morphology, and economic patterns. Yet, as 2D scans of old paper maps, they often fall short for in-depth analysis.

This workshop introduces geospatial techniques for enhancing historical maps by adding a third dimension to study Hong Kong’s urban past. By using data from the CSDI portal such as old survey sheets, aerial photos, and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), participants will learn to reconstruct the city’s bygone landscapes and create 3D models of historical neighbourhoods.
