Objectives

Introduce the basic knowledge of spatial data and GIS to secondary students, and enable participants to build their own story maps by collecting, analyzing and applying spatial data.

Registration

Please visit registration link. Participants are required to attend all three modules. A certificate will be issued to those participants who attended all three modules. The quota of each module is 25 participants, on a first-come-first-served basis. Free of charge.

Participants who successfully sign up will be notified individually by phone or email. Those who have not received any notification will be deemed as unsuccessful.

The Geospatial Lab reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the activities.

Introduction of Lecturers

Dr Paulina Wong

Dr Paulina Wong is currently an Assistant Professor in the Science Unit at Lingnan University and Centre Fellow of the Institute of Policy Studies. She is an environmental geographer specializing in urban climate, air/noise pollution, GIS, and environmental health. In recent years, her research has been extended to urban sensing, mobile geospatial technologies, sustainability education and social policy. She is a certified GIS Professional. She also serves on a number of professional associations such as the Council member and Vice-chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Honorary Secretary of HKGISA and Committee member of HKABAEIMA. She is also the editorial board member and review editor of several quality international journals.

Dr Wong obtained her BSc and MSc (First Class Honours) from University of Auckland, New Zealand and PhD from HKU.

 

Miss Moon Kok

Ms Moon Kok recently serves as the Executive committee at HKGISA. She graduated from the University of Hong Kong, holding a bachelor’s degree majoring in urban studies. As an urban specialist, her work focuses on walkability, smart city and application of GIS. Previously, she was the student research assistant of the department of Urban Planning and Design, HKU, where she was responsible for investigating methods to compile and analyze data effectively. She is not only active in the University but also acted as the vocation trainee of and GIS trainee of the Planning Department and Esri China (HK) Limited, where she undertook district-based planning-related tasks and analyzed spatial data.
