Objectives

Introduce the basic concept of spatial data and to inspire the secondary school principals/school representatives the importance of spatial data. Representatives can then distribute the messages at their schools and encourage the students to make good use of the spatial data to develop a smart city.

  1. Introduction to the services of Geospatial Lab and usage of relevant facilities 
  2. Geospatial Talk – “Importance of Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) and Spatial Analysis for Smart City Development in Hong Kong”
  3. Discussion session 
  4. Tour to the Geospatial Lab, with showcases and demonstrations

Venue: Geospatial Lab (Units 915-918, 9/F, Tower 1, Millennium City 1, 388 Kwun Tong Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon)

  • Dr Kenneth Tang, former President of HKGISA, and Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Urban Planning and Design, University of Hong Kong
  • Dr Paulina Wong, Hon. Secretary of HKGISA and Assistant Professor, Science Unit, Lingnan University

Language: Cantonese, supplemented by English teaching materials

Registration

Please contact the Geospatial Lab via email (services@csdigeolab.gov.hk) with your personal information and name of school. The quota is 25 participants, on a first-come-first-served basis. Free of charge.

Participants who successfully sign up will be notified individually by phone or email. Those who have not received any notification will be deemed as unsuccessful.

The Geospatial Lab reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the activities.

Introduction of Speakers

Dr Kenneth Tang

Dr Kenneth Tang is currently Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP). He serves on a number of professional bodies, notably as Past President of the Hong Kong Geographic Information System Association, Chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Board Director of the Hong Kong Alliance of Build Asset & Environment Information Management Association (HKABAEIMA) and Conservation E3 Foundation, Chief Editor of the HKIP Journal and appointed by the HKSARG as Member of the CSDI Advisory Committee.

Dr Tang obtained his MSc (Urban Planning) and PhD from HKU.

 

Dr Paulina Wong

Dr Paulina Wong is currently an Assistant Professor in the Science Unit at Lingnan University and Centre Fellow of the Institute of Policy Studies. She is an environmental geographer specializing in urban climate, air/noise pollution, GIS, and environmental health. In recent years, her research has been extended to urban sensing, mobile geospatial technologies, sustainability education and social policy. She is a certified GIS Professional. She also serves on a number of professional associations such as the Council member and Vice-chairman of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Committee of Smart City Consortium, Honorary Secretary of HKGISA and Committee member of HKABAEIMA. She is also the editorial board member and review editor of several quality international journals.

Dr Wong obtained her BSc and MSc (First Class Honours) from University of Auckland, New Zealand and PhD from HKU.
