House Rules

Welcome to the “Geospatial Lab (GeoLab)”! Please observe and comply with the following house rules:

  1. The GeoLab is established by the Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is operated by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and supported by Smart City Consortium.

  2. The GeoLab is admission free for the public to visit and participate in related activities organised by the GeoLab.

  3. The GeoLab is under surveillance with video recording by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system for security reason. All data recorded will only be viewed by authorised GeoLab staff. If further information is required, please contact the duty officer during office hours. 

  1. Admission for aged below 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 
  1. Please do not bring any large bag and luggage to the GeoLab.

  2. No person shall introduce any animal into the GeoLab, except guide dogs. 

  1. No unauthorised video taking, audio tape recording, or use of any reproduction appliances is allowed within the GeoLab. 
  1. No person shall enter any part of the GeoLab which is not open to the public. 
  1. No person shall handle, disturb or otherwise interfere with any exhibit. 
  1. Throwing objects, employing foul language and behaving in a disorderly manner in the GeoLab are prohibited.

  2. The following actions or activities are not permitted at the GeoLab:

    1. Littering;
    2. Eating;
    3. Smoking;
    4. Running;
    5. Yelling;
    6. Sleeping;
    7. Loitering or similar activities;
    8. Sale and promotional activities; and/or;
    9. Any other activities unrelated to the services provided at the GeoLab.

  3. No banners, buntings, flyers or publicity materials of any kind shall be displayed in the GeoLab without the permission of GeoLab staff.

  4. No loudhailers shall be used in the GeoLab without the permission of GeoLab staff.

  5. No promotional materials, souvenirs and give-away items shall be distributed in the GeoLab without the permission of GeoLab staff.

  6. No person shall wilfully obstruct any member of the GeoLab staff in performing his duty or wilfully obstruct, disturb, interrupt or annoy any other person in using the GeoLab or of any of the facilities provided therein.

  7. No person shall wilfully write upon, mark, soil or otherwise damage in any way whatever or destroy any wall, door, furniture, fitting, publications, materials or other things in the GeoLab. Visitors/users shall indemnify the GeoLab against any losses, damages or expenses incurred to the GeoLab arising from a breach of these guidelines. A charge will be made for any GeoLab exhibit lost or damaged, which will be such sum as GeoLab staff considers necessary to replace the exhibit or set of exhibits which the GeoLab exhibit forms a part.

  8. No person shall borrow any exhibit from the GeoLab except in accordance with a permit granted by the Development Bureau.

  9. Please respect copyright and do not infringe any copyright when making All copyright works are protected by the “Copyright Ordinance” (Cap 528 of the Laws of Hong Kong). Users may consult the webpage of the HKSAR Government for details of the “Copyright Ordinance” (Cap 528 of the Laws of Hong Kong) on the internet.

  10. The GeoLab shall not be held responsible for any infringement of intellectual property rights or other laws which a user may commit in making use of materials made accessible through the GeoLab. 

  1. For security reason, GeoLab staff, if required, reserves the right to request users to show their belongings for inspection before leaving. 
  1. The GeoLab staff may refuse any person from using the GeoLab if he/she does not obey the “House Rules” or ask any person to leave the GeoLab if he/she is in breach of the “House Rules” and/or other regulation(s) in force. 
  1. If there are too many visitors at the GeoLab, we will arrange the admission on a first come, first served basis according to the capacity of the GeoLab.
  2. Please do not leave your belongings unattended. The GeoLab is not responsible for the safe custody and/or loss of personal property brought to and/or left in the GeoLab. 

  1. Inclement Weather Arrangements

The GeoLab will close. It will be reopened 2 hours after the signal is lowered. The GeoLab will remain closed for the day if the signal remains hoisted at 1 p.m.

Black rainstorm warning:

If the warning is issued during normal opening hours, the GeoLab will remain open. If the warning is issued before the GeoLab opens, the GeoLab will be closed. It will be reopened 2 hours after the warning is cancelled. The GeoLab will remain closed for the day if the warning remains hoisted at 1 p.m.

  1. The GeoLab shall suspend service due to the following reasons: 
  1. Urgent maintenance (suspension notice will be put up at the GeoLab, the GeoLab website, Facebook and );
  2. The Development Bureau and/or Tung Wah Group of Hospitals exercise discretion to close the GeoLab when, in its opinion, the GeoLab is unsuitable for operation.  
  1. For any activity and appointment, if the GeoLab falls on any suspension period mentioned in paragraph 25 above, the activity and appointment shall be notified further. 
  1. Before leaving the GeoLab, the user shall ensure whether the returned material has been properly accepted by the GeoLab staff. In any event, the user shall not leave or damage the material at the GeoLab. Any such not leave or damage the material shall not be regarded as material returned to the GeoLab and the user shall be liable for the consequence of such action, such as liability for material not returned and any other related liability. 
  1. This GeoLab reserves the right and is entitled to change, alter, add, delete, suspend, revise and update all information on this “House Rules” at any time at its absolute discretion without giving any reasons and prior 
  1. This “House Rules” shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. 
  1. The English version of this “House Rules” shall prevail wherever there is any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions. 
  1. If you have been registered as a member of the GeoLab, please refer and follow the “Conditions of Use of the Compute” and “Booking Rules”. The GeoLab reserves the right to review edit or otherwise change the Rules and Regulations and any information contained at GeoLab sole discretion and without notice.
